Annual School Budget Vote and Board Election

In an executive order issued on Friday, May 1, New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced that this year’s school budget vote and board of education election will take place on June 9, exclusively by absentee ballot due to the COVID-19 public health crisis. More details will be forthcoming on this process.

Board of Education Election

Pursuant to Executive Order 202.26, candidates for school board must self-nominate. While no signatures are required for a self-nomination, the other required information for a nominating petition must be contained within the filing such that the eligibility of the candidate may be verified by the District. Requirements to run for a board seat are that the candidate must be at least 18 years of age, must be a resident of the Sherburne-Earlville Central School District, must be able to read and write, cannot be employed by the board on which they will serve or live in the same household with a family member who is also a member of the school board.

If you would like to run for a board seat, you must notify the District Clerk no later than May 11, 2020. For questions, please contact Michele Villante via email at [email protected].

District Mission Statement

Sherburne-Earlville is committed to students. By providing an environment of educational excellence which emphasizes the learning of academic and life skills, nurtures self-respect, and fosters life-long learning, we enable our students to pursue challenging individual goals and to become positive, contributing members of society.

Sherburne-Earlville Board of Education welcomes residents, staff members, students, and other interested persons to its meetings. We appreciate your interest in, and concern for, our schools.

School Board meetings are usually held on the second and fourth Mondays of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Elementary Library Classroom.

At the Board table are the Superintendent of Schools, the Assistant Superintendent for Business, and the District Clerk.

Copies of the agenda, which outline the order of business, are available to the public at each meeting and on our web site at secsd.org. The agenda is also distributed to Board members in advance of the meeting date to allow time for study and review of information.

The SECSD Board of Education is expected to:
  1. Collaborate with student, teacher, administrator, and parent organizations, SECSD safety personnel and other SECSD personnel to develop a code of conduct that clearly defines expectations for the conduct of students, SECSD personnel, and visitors on school property and at SECSD-sponsored functions.
  2. Adopt and review at least annually the SECSD Code of Conduct to evaluate the Code’s effectiveness and the fairness and consistency of its implementation.
  3. Lead by example by conducting SECSD board meetings in a professional, respectful, courteous manner.
This information was taken from the Code of Conduct.
