We were thrilled to welcome our UPK-12 students back to school September 7 and, judging by the smiles, your children are equally happy to be back where they belong.
That’s one of two key messages we want to relay to all Sherburne-Earlville students, their families, faculty, staff and community members during the 2023-2024 school year. No matter who you are, you are part of our S-E Family, and YOU BELONG HERE!
Our other key message – EVERY DAY COUNTS – is just as important. We want to see your children in school as often as possible so they can learn and grow academically, physically, socially and emotionally in a safe school environment. We’re not asking you to send sick children to school, of course. We just don’t want anyone to miss out on anything SECSD has to offer.
Whether it’s classroom learning, clubs, field trips, sports or other extra-curricular activities, we are thankful for your ongoing support of our educational programs and opportunities as we continue to work on strategies to help our district shine. We really are off to a great start, and it really does take a team effort from everyone to make everything happen.
In addition to terrific opening days for both staff and students in early September, we’ve seen tremendous positivity and community togetherness during special events such as our Homecoming and Halloween parades, Chobani Cup Truck and Fire Prevention days, and, most recently, our annual Scholastic Book Fair and Veterans Luncheon at the elementary school. We also recently held our first UPK-2 Literacy Night, spearheaded by our Elementary School Links team, and had the opportunity to witness the resurgence of our varsity football program, which packed our stadium for every home game this fall en route to a championship appearance in the Section III C2/D2 playoffs.
All of our athletic programs appear to be headed in the right direction as numbers are up for our cross country and cheerleading squads, both boys and girls soccer are starting to turn the corner, and a young field hockey program showed tremendous improvement. We look forward to even more sports success in the coming months as our basketball, bowling, swimming, indoor track and field, volleyball, wrestling and cheerleading teams – yes, we’re bringing back winter cheerleading! – are currently preparing for the Winter Sports season.
And come next fall, we’ll have a brand new multi-purpose turf field with a new track, new throwing areas and new scoreboard as our community-approved Capital Project readies for Phase 2. Groundbreaking at the stadium will begin in early May, so we will have to make some adjustments during the outdoor track and field season, graduation, and the 75th Sherburne Pageant of Bands. Please know that we will be collaborating with stakeholder groups to address these issues and other district needs in an effort to make SECSD the very best for everyone.
If you ever have questions or concerns about anything related to SECSD, please do not hesitate to reach out to me via email at
[email protected] or by calling our District Office at 607-674-7300. Great things are happening at S-E, where every day counts and you belong!
